Lick My LEDS! update 2 from Durham

Update from Durham

As any SUV drivin Dad with a two year old knows, hard candy lollypops melt into a sticky gooey mess. When stuck to the carpet under the seat for several weeks before being discovered, not very welcoming. I'm not that Dad. I didn't think my candy installation would melt away as much as it did. And it looks amazing. The sticky flavored and colored sugar is slowly adding a whole new dimension to Lick My LEDs!
Philly Markowitz, at the Durham Art Gallery is kindly taking care of my installation during the exhibition. Her reports and photos have been a pleasure to receive as I fretted about it all from 2400 kms away. This week I made and shipped off a whole new batch of lollies to replace the melted ones. Two more weeks to go.

Debugged my circuits and got everything going towards the final step, casting some new lollies and installing them. Lickin good!

The local folks have been very generous to us. Durham is a small town almost rural but just enough city to make us feel at home.

Durham Art Gallery

We are all set up at the Durham Art Gallery. So far we have been getting settled in and checking out the town of Durham. We have the good fortune of being here on the same weekend as Norman White's annual weekender at the Normill, an old seed mill converted to a sort of arts center and residence. There's lots of interesting people here to meet and hang out with.

Lick My LEDs!

That's the name of my new installation which I am preparing for the Durham Art Gallery in Ontario. The Common Pulse Media Arts Festival will be the weekend of June 10-12. I'll be doing a three week residency as part of the festival. The concept of the project is Candy Computing ver .01. The basic form is Lectric Lollies. I'm combining my recent interest in hard candy making, microcontrollers and electronics. My friend Robert Pasternak is helping out with some cool packaging.
